Founder of Amara Giving
No one should go hungry—especially when so much good food is thrown away. The cost of living crisis has made food insecurity a harsh reality for many, and I couldn’t stand by while people in my community struggled. Amara Giving was founded on a simple yet powerful belief: food is meant to be shared, not wasted.
For over 17 years, I’ve volunteered across various charitable sectors, driven by the belief that kindness spreads kindness. It’s an honour to launch Amara Giving with the core principles of equitability, sustainability, and community responsibility at its heart. Our mission goes beyond providing nutritious meals—it’s about restoring dignity, bringing people together, and helping businesses in the food industry understand their role in supporting their communities and reaching their sustainability goals.
Having studied MSc Development Studies from SOAS, University of London, and further studies at University of Oxford, I’ve explored food systems from an academic perspective—understanding the journey of food and how waste affects both our environment and communities. The more I learned, the clearer it became: we don’t have a food shortage problem—we have a food distribution problem. By redirecting surplus food, we can nourish people, reduce waste, and create a more sustainable, responsible society.
Food is universal. It transcends background, beliefs, and circumstance. Everyone deserves access to food—without question, without stigma. At Amara Giving, we rescue surplus food, reduce waste, and ensure that those in need receive nutritious meals with care and respect. Throughout history, food has been a symbol of love and connection, and we are committed to keeping that tradition alive.
I am deeply grateful to our volunteers, supporters, and partners who make this work possible. Together, we are proving that a simple act—sharing food—can create lasting change, transforming lives, strengthening communities, and shaping a better, more compassionate world.
